Jonathan Van Ness, of Queer Eye fame, tells all in Over the Top: A Raw Journey to Self-Love, and be warned that all includes not only the difficulties of growing up flamboyantly gay in a small Midwestern town (but, mercifully, understood and shielded by his family). It also shows him as a sex worker and a drug addict. It’s a miracle he came out of his out adult life mostly intact. The book manages to take his childhood fantasy of becoming a world-class skater as a guiding metaphor throughout the book with humor and lots of energy. And we also learn a lot about hairstylists!
