*** House of Stone by Novuyo Rosa Tshuma

House of Stone reads more like a history of Zimbabwe than a family saga, although it is presented as such, and very cleverly so, under the guise of a dispossessed lodger trying to infiltrate himself, o so smoothly, into the family of his landlord. ¬†Flashbacks to the painful personal stories of the family uncover personal secrets that match the war of independence and the ensuing struggle for control and dictatorship in the country. It’s brutal and very well done.
