** Morgue by Vincent Di Maio

Morgue: A Life in Death is a memoir with two goals, one to show us how smart the author is, and the other that there are too few medical examiners in the US because they are relatively poorly paid compared to physicians in other specialties. Neither theme was a big draw for me, nor was the heavy emphasis on expert witnessing at various sensational trials (the more to push theme #1, I suppose). Still, there were enough stories of intelligent deduction to keep my interest.

As a much superior alternative on the same topic, I recommend Working Stiff.
