** The Sellout by Paul Beatty

The Sellout is a masterful, dark satire on racism, in which the hero, a black man who was raised by a cruel psychologist on an unlikely farm in a suburb of Los Angeles, decides to segregate the local high school with the help of a faithful slave (really) and an ex-girlfriend who is a bus driver for the transit district. It will not end well.

The language is dazzling, the ideas effervescent. The story does not quite last the 300 pages of the book, but what a pyrotechnic display!
