*** Domesticated by Richard Francis

Domesticated: Evolution in a Man-Made World is a science-heavy book that describes how domestication changed the evolution for dogs, cats, pigs, cattle, and likely humans, too! The author shows how selecting animals for tameness also increased their ability to live in groups, made them dumber in many ways, and changed some of their physical characteristics. In my mind it should be possible to explain all that without worrying about CNVs (copy number variations, as I learned) but that’s not the choice the author made. Still, the stories are lively and accessible. Maybe a little less when he extends the theory to humans themselves. but certainly for most of the book.
