** A Hanging at Cider Bottom by Glenn Taylor

A Hanging at Cinder Bottom is the picaresque story of a West Virgina boomtown with corrupt officials and the card sharp who would seek and find revenge. Freaks abound along with unlikely coincidences and a completely over-the-top ending. I feel I should have gotten more into the story but it felt too composed (if exciting). If you like period dramas, go for it. There are more twists and complications than in a classic English whodunit story.
