** The Big Seven by Jim Harrison

The Big Seven refers to the seven deadly sins, which the hero, a retired police officer, ruminates about throughout the story, while wearily monitoring the deadly habits of his new neighbors (and sleeping with lots of very young and varyingly inappropriate women). A murder investigation is at the heart of the story but what matters more seems to be the descriptions of fishing in his Michigan cabin, and the wonderful, strong character of his ex-wife, themes very similar to the ones in the last book of Harrison’s I reviewed.. Still, too much meandering for my taste.
