* F by Daniel Kehlmann

F start with a heart-stoppingly accomplished chapter during which a father abandons his three sons (and their mothers) after a hypnosis session. But it’s downhill from there, as we find the three grown sons faking their ways through lives as, respectively, priest, painter, and financier that failed to elicit much interest from this reader. I did admire the way the author portrays children, both the children of the disappearing father and his grandchildren, as they manage to live their own lives in the midst of their families’ chaos.
