* Extreme Medicine by Kevin Fong

Extreme Medicine: How Exploration Transformed Medicine in the Twentieth Century made me a little uncomfortable, as belonging to the dubious genre of “porn medicine”. That being said, the author does a decent job of recounting how various human adventures in space, cold places, and of course war has led to advancements in medical practice. The book would have benefitted from some tighter editing, and by that I mean some more work on organization and content, not typo-correction.

If you are looking for a more meaningful book about medicine, I would suggest  God’s Hotel for a look at the completely unsexy and useful end of medicine…
