Written by the founder of IDEO and his brother and partner, Creative Confidence: Unleashing the Creative Potential Within Us All is essentially a how-to guide to creativity. The ideas I found most interesting were that everyone is creative, that creativity comes at the opposite of narrow framing, and that the best way to design for users is to actually go meet those users and understand their larger lives. (You will notice that all three ideas are rather basic! In particular, I had always assumed that everyone could be creative, in one’s own domain, but the authors assure us that many people think they are not.)
The little gem of the book are the hands-on exercises noted at the end of the book, and used in the Stanford school of design founded by David.
