** Mom & Me & Mom

Mom & Me & Mom is the touching, messy, and at times harsh story of Maya Angelou’s mother, who sent her children to be raised by their paternal grandmother after she divorced and seemed in no hurry to get them back. But her mother, whatever we may think of how she treated her children, was also a remarkable woman, who shaped a career for herself, or at least a living, starting with very little  and in a world and time that were not  hospitable to women in general and black women in particular. The most difficult parts of the memoirs are the ones that tell candidly of the abuse that the author had inflicted on her by her family and later by assorted boyfriends. Her ability to survive and thrive makes the story very inspiring.
