** Birdseye by Mark Kurlanksy

Birdseye: The Adventures of a Curious Man is the entertaining biography of Clarence Birdseye, an astute businessman and inveterate inventor (or, more exactly, an improver of existing technology and processes), who gave us frozen peas and frozen fish fillets, and so much more. His personal life is just as interesting than his inventions, as he was a prodigious hunter and an adventurer who thought nothing of raising a baby 250 miles away from the nearest hospital, and unreachable in winter anyway. A refreshing read for the summer.
